“During this period, the results achieved by athletes in any competition will not be certified and listed as the competition standard or world ranking points for the Tokyo Olympics. At the same time, the Olympic qualification list and world ranking will also be suspended. However, if the competition resumes before December, the world record created by athletes will still be valid.” The World Field Federation wrote on its official website.

Under the condition that the global epidemic is under control, the Olympic qualifier will resume from December 1, 202020and continue to the deadline of the new qualifier set by the International Olympic Committee in 2021.

With regard to the Olympic qualifications that have been obtained, the world field Federation also made the following explanation: “The qualifications that have been obtained in the Olympic qualification competition that began in 2019 are still valid. Regarding the deadline for the new Olympic qualifier, the marathon and 50km race walk are on May 31, 2021, while other projects are on June 29, 2021.”

In this regard, Sebastian Ko, the chairman of the world field federation, said: “I thank the Athletes Committee and the Council for all their work and feedback, they believe that suspending the Olympic qualifier during this period can provide more certainty for athletes’ plans and preparations. Considering the current situation, this is the best way to achieve fairness.”

At the same time, the world field Federation also announced a temporary leave plan, deciding to let 50% of its headquarters staff take leave, and all employees who take leave will continue to receive full pay.

Most of the employees of the world field Association, headquartered in Monaco, are stationed in Monaco and France. 70% of the total wages of the employees during their leave will be paid by the Monegasque government, and the rest will be paid by the world field Association.
