The IOC executive committee announced on the 3rd that it agreed to set Tahiti as the venue for the Paris Olympic surfing competition, and announced that Concorde Square in downtown Paris was one of the venues for the Olympic Games.
Tahiti Island is located in the South Pacific Ocean and is an island in French Polynesian islands. Its other translated name is more widely known, namely “Tahiti”. Teahubo near the island is a world-famous surfing spot and an important site for the World Surfing League championship.
There were five alternatives in the selection of surfing venues for the 2024 Olympic Games. Except Tahiti, the other four were all located near the Atlantic coast of France.
The Paris Olympic organizing committee commissioned professional organizations to conduct a selective opinion poll in the Olympic surfing competition last year, and the results showed that 74% of the interviewees thought Tahiti was the best choice. Especially among the young people aged 15 to 25, the proportion of Tahiti is as high as 79%. Finally, the Paris Olympic organizing committee chose Tahiti after considering all aspects and submitted the plan to the International Olympic Committee. Surfing, as an emerging sport, is increasingly sought after and loved by young people. This year’s Tokyo Olympic Games will be the first time that this project has appeared on the Olympic stage.
The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee also agreed to use the Concorde square in the center of Paris as one of the venues for the 2024 Olympic Games on the same day, and the specific events will be finalized by the end of this year.
